The Sword Choreography Challenge

The choreography challenge is a unique opportunity for dancers to explore a potential career path as choreographers. Participants will have the chance to envision and create a dance piece, enhancing their skills and understanding the multifaceted process involved in bringing a performance to life. This includes elements such as costuming, lighting, props, and developing a cohesive storyline.

Under the guidance of experienced faculty, dancers will learn how to effectively communicate their artistic vision to a group. On Sunday, the top three choreographers will have the opportunity to set their pieces on the assistants, competing for the prestigious “arising choreographer award.” all other participants who did not place in the top three will showcase a 30-second segment of their piece in the closing show, while only the top three will perform alongside the assistants.

Dancers interested in this challenge should sign up at the front desk on Friday evening of the event. The fee for the choreography challenge is $50. Dancers who register for this challenge must attend all scheduled “Choreography Challenge” classes; failure to do so will result in disqualification. Winners will be announced on Sunday during the awards ceremony, and each winner will receive a cash prize of $50.
